According to new studies by British and French scientists, the belief that women have better hearing than men is now proven by science.
The study, which included testing on around 450 people from 13 nations, discovered that women’s hearing sensitivity is about two decibels higher than men’s. Across all populations studied, the researchers discovered that women had an average of two decibels higher hearing amplitude across the frequency spectrum. These findings were reported in the journal Scientific Reports.
It’s the anatomy
Furthermore, women exhibit what scientists describe “heightened cochlear sensitivity.” This refers to better function of a fluid-filled portion of the inner ear- the cochlea, that turns sound waves into signals that the brain understands. Women outperform men in other acoustic evaluations, revealing their superior hearing ability.
In certain populations, female hearing sensitivity can outperform male ears by up to six kHz, supporting the notion that women’s auditory range and sound detection are significantly superior. Aside from their cochlear sensitivity, women routinely outperform in a variety of sound-related examinations.
This study offers light on the natural differences in hearing capacity between men and women, emphasising women’s significant auditory advantages over the world.
Surprisingly, even as hearing abilities reduce with age, women had better hearing than men in the same age group. A tiny pattern emerged in which the right ear was slightly more sensitive than the left ear.
The study also looked at the surroundings, demonstrating how where you live might affect your hearing. According to the study, persons living at higher altitudes, such as in the Andes, have poorer hearing due to decreased oxygen levels, whereas those in tropical woods had superior hearing for animal sounds. People who live in cities are more sensitive to higher-pitched noises because they are constantly exposed to noise.
