Uber is introducing a new product in India called Uber for Teens, aimed at allowing children to travel safely and providing parents with peace of mind. The service, which has already been launched in the US and some parts of Europe, will roll out in 37 Indian cities, including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

What is Uber for teens?

Uber for Teens is a unique ride experience for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 years. It enables teens to reserve rides independently under parental guidance. Safety is given utmost importance, and Uber has added various features for a safe experience.

How does Uber for teens work?

To begin with, parents or guardians have to:

  • Invite their teenager to the Uber app using their own account.
  • The teenager opens an account and links it to the parent’s profile.
  • After linking, the teenager can request their own Uber rides.
  • Parents are able to monitor their child’s location in real-time and receive notifications.
  • Parents also have the ability to pre-book rides for their teenager.

Additional safety features for teen riders

Uber has implemented a number of security features for this new service:

  • Only top-rated and verified drivers are able to take teen rides.
  • The pickup and drop-off points are locked, meaning drivers can’t change them.
  • Teens can record audio for their ride for added safety.
  • If teens are riding together, they must all be 13 to 17 years old and have parental permission.
  • Seat belts are required, and teens need to ride in the back seat.

After a teen reaches 18 years of age, their account will automatically convert to a regular Uber profile.

Parents are concerned about their teenagers’ safety traveling alone. Uber for Teens is a trusted alternative, allowing parents to remain updated and in control of the trip. Uber combines parental monitoring and advanced safety measures to provide independent and secure teen travel.
