Health officials in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, have sealed the cath lab of Mission Hospital after a fake doctor allegedly carried out heart surgeries there, which led to the death of at least seven patients. District Health Officer Vikrant Singh Chauhan said, “On the orders of the district administration, we have sealed only the cath lab because all the operations took place here. There is important evidence in this area. The patients who died had their angiography and angioplasty done in this lab.”
The lab was sealed shortly after the arrest of Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who posed as a British heart specialist named Dr N John Camm. He allegedly performed several heart procedures at the hospital and also forged documents to support his fake identity.
One of the victims in the Damoh hospital tragedy was the father of Jitendra Singh Rajput, who shared his painful experience.
“My name is Jitendra Singh Rajput. I took my father to the hospital when he had chest pain. The doctors said it was a heart attack and that surgery was needed. I told them I didn’t have money, and they said I could use the Ayushman card,” Jitendra recalled.
After reports of multiple patient deaths and the arrest of a fake doctor at Mission Hospital, the Madhya Pradesh government has promised strict action.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said, “Our government is taking this matter very seriously. We don’t delay in taking action in such cases. I’ve instructed the health department to act strictly if there are other similar cases.”
State Minister Prahlad Patel also spoke on the matter and said that this hospital has had controversies in the past.“
That hospital has been in trouble before. This is a serious case and needs a strong investigation. The focus should be on justice for the victims, not politics,” he told ANI.
