Bengaluru techie tries to set himself on fire near Governor’s house due to wife’s torture

A man named Junaid Ahmad, working in the tech sector, attempted suicide near the Governor’s residence on Sunday, claiming he could no longer cope with his wife’s harassment. Junaid, from Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district, tried to end his life near the Governor’s residence by pouring petrol on himself. He was stopped just in time by police on duty.

According to police, Junaid alleged that his wife had filed a false dowry case along with several other complaints against him. He also claimed that when he approached the Chikkaballapur police to file a counter-complaint, they refused to register it.

Frustrated and feeling helpless, Junaid attempted to kill himself in front of Raj Bhavan. He was detained by the police and taken to Vidhana Soudha police station, where he was later counselled and released.

On April 7, a software professional from Bengaluru who was living separately from his wife and child for two years, tragically ended his life, reportedly unable to handle the emotional strain of the separation. In a separate incident, a man set himself on fire outside his wife’s home in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, last Thursday, after failing to persuade her to withdraw her divorce petition.

Previously, Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash took his own life, allegedly due to ongoing torture and demand of Rs 3 crore from his wife, Nikita Singhania, for a divorce settlement. Another suicide case emerged from Bengaluru on December 14, 2024, involving a police officer, who allegedly took his life due to similar reasons of torture by his wife and her family.
