During the Supreme Court hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, expressed concerns over the delayed filing of the First Information Report (FIR). He noted that the FIR was registered at 11:45 PM, following the victim’s cremation. Mehta highlighted that the parents were initially informed it was a suicide, but suspicions arose among the victim’s colleagues, leading to demands for videography.

The CBI’s findings also pointed to lapses by the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital authorities in handling the case with the required sensitivity. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, criticized the Kolkata Police for their handling of the investigation, emphasizing the delay in filing the FIR and the subsequent alteration of the crime scene.

This case has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the nation, with demands for justice and improved safety measures for medical professionals. The Supreme Court’s scrutiny underscores the necessity for prompt and transparent investigations in such grievous incidents.
